YouTube quickly let me know that my YouTube video of the construction of my new home was now partially blocked. But what does partially blocked mean on YouTube?

Here’s the definition and while we are at it, let’s see what happened.

First of all, I created a video – a slideshow with sound really – on my Instagram account. It used Beyonce’s “Texas Hold ‘Em” song for the sound. So far, so good. I picked the song right there from the Instagram Reels library. Then I figured I would also post it as a YouTube Short.

And then as soon as I downloaded the video and then uploaded it onto YouTube, YouTube gave me the definition of what partially blocked means on YouTube. Here’s what their email stated:

“Copyrighted content has been detected in your video “Let’s get this new house built. ” As a result, your video has been blocked in 1 territory. This is not a copyright strike and does not affect your channel.”

I didn’t even look where it was blocked, and some territories I certainly could care less about. But there’s a way to fix the issue directly on YouTube in a case like this.

How to fix partially blocked on YouTube restriction

Once you click over from YouTube’s email, click on select action. You can also go to the YouTube Studio to find this if you didn’t get an email.

From there, you can replace the song, mute the song, or dispute the decision to block your video partially. For this kind of thing, disputing seems too much work, in my opinion. Muting it, what’s the point of a video without sound? But let’s try to replace it.

The options of songs to replace the original one are kind of limited and not super great.

But I tried it anyway. The video had about an average number of views out of the gate, so the different song apparently didn’t affect performance negatively, at least.

So, that’s one option to respond to a partial block. Another way is to not import videos from Instagram or TikTok at all. Just use the original video, upload it to YouTube, and find an available song on that platform.

In this case, that wouldn’t have been too difficult.

So there you have it. A partial block on YouTube might matter, or it might not – depending on the territory. But there are certainly options to fix and avoid it.
