Vertical video on LinkedIn is now a thing

Just kind of stumbled across this. But vertical video on LinkedIn is now a thing. It even has its own tab in the mobile app. See below.

So in the apps, you can find them in the video tap. I have not seen a formal spot for them on the desktop website. But of course, they would just show up in the regular feed.

They also show up when you click on a picture in your feed. You’re then encouraged to keep scrolling down for a video.

Personally, I have enjoyed publishing horizontal videos from my podcast on LinkedIn. Here’s how those look:

But, I had never seen those side bars, so I wonder if Linkedin is now resizing them to vertical anyways so they can show them in the video tab.

Anyway, that exact same video looks like this when I reformat it through Opus Clips as a vertical video.

In essence, whether I publish videos as horizontal or vertical should be dictated by what works best on the network. After all years ago, I would argue that everything should be horizontal because that’s how people watch videos and then TikTok came around and now stuff became vertical. I follow the trends that help my content perform.

And now Linkedin is copying the format. Perhaps it makes production even a little bit easier because I was doing horizontal videos from my podcast on LinkedIn and then I reformatted it vertically for the other channels. You can also create free faceless videos with this AI generator.

For now, you can only upload videos into LinkedIn and cannot record them in the app like you can do on TikTok and other.  But I think it’s definitely worth trying to see if it can give you a competitive advantage in your content strategy on the network.
