When is the best time to write? Hmm. Good question. I know when my best time to write is, but certainly, the answer depends on:
In this article, I discuss this topic, which is important because to create a content performance culture, it’s important to find the right setup that works for individual creators to set them and their content up for success.
Some people might argue that the morning is the best time to write. And while that is typically my preference, it depends on the person and their environment.
Personal preferences
My personal preference is to write in the morning. By far. Heck, I started the idea for this article later in the day and just ran out of steam and decided it would be way better to write it in the morning anyway.
Why the morning?
I feel fresher, my mind is clear, and when it’s not super hot or cold out, I love that quiet morning mood and sound when the windows are open. Cup of coffee in hand, the words come quicker and clearer to the keyboard.
Maybe that’s because I could sleep on the topic and maybe pre-wrote it in my head. I don’t know, but it just feels like a fresh start to the day, and at the end of the day, writing and really any strategic content creation can be strenuous – even though we are just sitting or standing at our desks.
But if you aren’t an early riser, a morning writing routine likely sounds horrible to you. Maybe mid-day or even early evening or late evening works for you.

Environmental impact
By environment impact, I mean what the job or team setup requires. For example, back in my newspaper days, news content had to be written later in the day. After all, the news had to happen first, and then you had to write about it for late afternoon/early evening or even later deadline. There’s not much you can do about that. Whether I like to write early or late in the day made no difference.
But today, many marketing careers don’t have those same-day deadlines. Or they shouldn’t with some good project management on hand. Writing bright and early in the morning isn’t an issue when you work at home and don’t have to commute to an office. But if you must work in an office and can’t arrive until nine and won’t start writing until 10, the early-morning routine might not be possible even if it would benefit everyone involved.

How to actually write during the best time for you
Now, some things are non-negotiable. Certainly. Newspaper or other deadlines won’t move because you want to write earlier or later. But on many marketing teams, it should make no difference whether people prefer to produce bright and early or relatively late than never in the day.
Have a conversation and see what can be done and what makes sense. So, in a nutshell, the best time to write depends on the creator’s personal preference and what is possible in their current work setup.
