The question of is surround sound worth it is really only a question until you’ve tried or installed surround sound. It’s perhaps similar to whether or not HD TV is worth it, which many of us asked two decades ago. TV seemed fine until then. And what was wrong with the sound quality so far?
Nothing. Nothing was wrong with it. But surround sound makes it even better. Just like HD made TV better and now 4K will improve even that.
And honestly, you don’t even have to go over the top, as I show in this video of my setup to make surround sound work for you. Using an example of my podcast, even in this clip, you can hear the quality, fullness and sound. It’s just so much better than what the built-in TV speakers bring. The product I use offers virtual surround sound, per its description and also my experience. That means it’s surrounding me, but there actually are no speakers behind me.
Other products are available if you prefer the more traditional feel and look of a system that sends the audio from all corners of the room.
And if that’s still not enough physical speakers, there are plenty more options to add them and truly create that virtual and visual theatre experience.
