When it comes to YouTube videos, comments can be great for engagement and also to respond to with another video, but of course there’s plenty of toxicity going around as well. So you might have to wonder how to disable YouTube comments and then do just that.
So let’s take a look how to do that.
From the start
When you upload any kind of video you can turn comments off as you’re doing that. Here’s how that looks on the iPad YouTube app for example. But it is also possible on the phone app and also on desktop.
As you are uploading the video you can toggle comments on or off.
For livestreams
I schedule my podcast live streams through Restream, and then I can edit certain pieces directly in the YouTube studio. Going to the specific video I have to scroll down and click on “show more.”
Now that video wasn’t actually a live stream, but it’s the same look on a scheduled live streamed video except you have to scroll farther.
On the next screen – also quite a ways down – you can turn them off or you can change the moderation level.
After publication
Even after other types of YouTube videos have published, you can still disable comments by following the process immediately above.
So that’s the process but keep in mind that comments can help with engagement but certainly they can also get out of hand and quite annoying. So find that balance that’s right for you.
