WhatsApp has been a popular messaging app outside of the United States. I have used it frequently when attending and speaking at conferences in Europe, South America and Asia. And of course it can be used as part of a content strategy. Besides one-on-one communication and groups, you can also create a broadcast channel. I did just that and let me show you how to create a WhatsApp channel.
On my WhatsApp channel, so far, I’ve shared links to blog posts on here and each time have recorded a short video talking about the topic.
How I set up my WhatsApp channel
The setup is simple. In the app, click on the three dots. As is often the case, much is hidden behind those. We just have to figure out what. Click “Create Channel.”
Name your channel. I just called it the same name as this blog – Christoph’s Content Corner. Brand consistency! I used an existing graphic as the foundation to create a channel image. You can easily do that in tools like Visme. A bit of resizing and moving elements around on the image was necessary.
From there add an intro. What will you be posting about – basically.
And that’s basically it. Of course, now the hard part starts to let people know about the channel. Grab the shareable link and let your audience on other networks know. So far so good on my end. New channels can take time but are often worth trying – at least for a bit. If nothing else, I like the idea of recording a short video about a blog post. That’s certainly something I could do on any network.
