My top tip when visiting Honolulu beaches (Waikiki Beach)

You can most likely count on good weather visiting Honolulu beaches. Maybe a bit of wind but it’s typically not too bad.

But nonetheless, it is helpful to understand what equipment will make the beach visit even more enjoyable. For example, there are a ton of rocks directly in the water off Honolulu beaches.

Rocks in the water at Honolulu beaches

Given that it’s easy to make assumptions based of previous experiences, that’s easy to overlook. Every other beach I’ve been to previously did not have rocks in the water.

Maybe my craziest and funniest story when I made a decision based on previous experiences was when I attended an outdoor conference but didn’t realize it was outdoors. All other conferences I’ve attended in my professional life have been inside so I dressed for an inside conference which didn’t do me any good since it was like 90° outside and I was wearing a long sleeve dress shirt.

Wear this to go swimming at Honolulu beaches

On Honolulu beaches, of course, there is a way around it and still go on a swim. One is to just try to ignore the rocks and slowly step over them. I would not recommend that and it kind of hurts your feet.

The other option is to wear water shoes – which you can buy on Amazon. (Affiliate link)

My daughter shows off her water shoes in this YouTube short.

Once she had the shoes on she was easily swimming near the beach in the Pacific Ocean. Of course, it’s still advisable to not go out too far.

In addition to the water shoes, I would also recommend to figure out what rental opportunities are nearby for beach equipment. For example, we ordered our beach chairs and umbrellas for the week online and then simply showed up.
