curved monitor - click to purchaseAs someone who loves to try new things to make content creation easier and more efficient, I’m always excited when I get the chance to test out cutting-edge technology.  Next up: Do curved monitors make a difference? Curved monitors are a relatively new way to work, and I was eager to experience the difference firsthand.

The curved monitor immediately drew me in with its immersive design. Even at 27 inches, the curved screen made me feel surrounded and engaged with my content. It’s definitely a different experience from a flat monitor. I can only imagine how much more pronounced this effect would be with larger curved monitors. This immersive quality could be a game-changer for tasks that require deep focus or engagement – including content creation, strategy and the likes.

The largest curved monitor I could find is offered at 45 inches by the way.

Are curved monitors better?

Curved monitors offer unique benefits, but whether they’re better than flat monitors depends on your specific needs and preferences. The curved design enhances the feeling of immersion. The wraparound effect makes you feel more connected with your viewing content or working on. It really comes down to personal preference and the type of work you do most often.

Do curved monitors distort images?

People have this concern about image distortion. So I put it to the test by displaying the same picture on both the curved and flat screens.  There was no noticeable distortion on the curved monitor. The image looked just as clear and proportional as it did on the flat screen. Text and graphics remained sharp and easy to read, even at the edges of the screen where the curve was most pronounced.

Are curved monitors good for dual monitor setups?

While I didn’t get to test a dual setup myself, I can see the potential benefits. The design could create a more seamless and immersive experience across both screens, with the curved edges minimizing the gap between monitors for a more cohesive display. However, it’s important to consider your desk size and overall setup to ensure that they would be a good fit. You’ll also want to consider how you typically use multiple monitors and whether the curved design would enhance or hinder your workflow.

One larger curved monitor might be the way to instead.

Do curved monitors make you dizzy?

I didn’t experience any dizziness after using the curved monitor for about 45 minutes, but I noticed that it took some time to get used to the curved design. If you’re concerned about potential dizzy spells, try one out in person before purchasing. As with any new technology, listen to your body and take breaks as needed to avoid strain or discomfort.

Are curved monitors worth it?

They are worth considering if you’re in the market for a new monitor and are interested in a more immersive experienceFrom what I’ve seencurved monitors are typically priced similarly to their flat counterparts, so it may not be a significant extra investment. However, if you’re happy with your current flat monitor and mainly use it for basic productivity tasks, there may not be a pressing reason to switch.

The bottom line

They certainly offer a unique and immersive viewing experience. The curved design engages you with your content differently, potentially enhancing your enjoyment of activities like gaming or movie-watching. While curved monitors may not be an essential upgrade for everyone, they’re worth considering. As with any new technology, it’s important to weigh the potential benefits against your specific needs and budget. If possible, try out a curved monitor in person to better understand how it feels and whether it’s a good fit for your work style.

For me,  it wasn’t even as much about the actual monitor but about how versatile the setup is. For example, can I move it up and down? Does it tilt? Those are all important functions for me, so keep those in mind as well.
