When I first encountered Grammarly years ago, I wasn’t impressed. Like most software solutions on Day 1, it had its quirks. Fast forward to today, and AI writing assistants have become useful tools for content creators, marketers, and really anyone who writes professionally.
Today, Grammarly has evolved into my go-to autopilot for word usage across various platforms. The Mac version, in particular, has become an essential part of my daily writing toolkit. Let me share my experience with that and share some other tools.
How AI helps with editing writing
AI writing assistants help with basic tasks like grammar checks and more advanced features like tone adjustments. They can make the writing process more efficient and help ensure your message comes across clearly.
The Grammarly experience on Mac
The Mac version of Grammarly deserves special attention. After fanboying over it recently, I’ve found it particularly useful because it integrates seamlessly across all applications. Here’s what makes it stand out:
It works across all your apps automatically, provides real-time writing suggestions, and offers AI-powered recommendations that consider context. The installation process is straightforward. After navigating to the Apps section on Mac, you simply click “install.” The software then integrates with various programs, including iMessage, making it a comprehensive writing assistant.
What I particularly appreciate is how it checks everything—including my iMessages. When you click the “G” icon, you get instant recommendations or confirmation that your writing is on point. The AI assistant can even suggest ways to change your tone if that’s what you’re after.

Why WriteCream stands out
WriteCream offers a different approach to AI writing assistance. While testing it recently, I found its interface straightforward and user-friendly. The tool provides the specific editing for long from editor, which allows you to pick a tone.
Type AI’s free paragraph rewriter
Another tool worth mentioning is Type AI’s Paragraph Rewriter.
The interface is clean and straightforward. You simply paste your paragraph into the text box, click rewrite, and the AI generates different versions of your content. What I appreciate about this approach is its simplicity. No complicated menus or settings to wade through – just paste and rewrite.
What makes Type AI different is its focus on giving you multiple options for expressing the same idea. Instead of just suggesting grammar fixes or tone adjustments, it helps you explore different ways to communicate your message.
How Claude AI handles projects and continuity
While testing various AI writing assistants, I’ve found Claude AI particularly useful for more complex content creation. ChatGPT might grab the headlines, but Claude AI offers some unique features that make it stand out.
What sets Claude apart is its project-based approach to content creation. Instead of treating each interaction as a standalone conversation, Claude allows you to create projects where you can tie together various content assets like:
- Brand guidelines
- Example content for tone and style reference
- Standard prompts
- Related articles and resources
Especially using the brand guidelines can really help you edit the writing.
This continuity feature proves especially valuable when working on larger content initiatives or when you need to maintain consistent messaging across multiple pieces. Once you have the pro plan, you simply create a project and add the materials that need to be considered throughout your content creation process.
Perplexity to check accuracy
Perplexity is definitely a champion when it comes to checking accuracy. Just copy and paste your paragraph and ask whether or not the content is correct. You can even ask it to rewrite it to make it correct.
But yet I’m not entirely convinced that any one AI tool is definitively “better” than another – they all handle similar tasks. As AI marketer Dan Sanchez noted on “The Business Storytelling Podcast,” if one AI tool goes down, you can usually switch to another similar one.
However, once you get comfortable with a particular tool’s interface and features, that familiarity does breed comfort.

Making the most of AI writing tools
To get the most out of AI writing assistants:
- Install them across your frequently used applications for consistent writing quality
- Take time to learn the advanced features beyond basic grammar checking
- Use the tone adjustment features to ensure your message matches your intent
- Remember to review AI suggestions critically—they’re assistants, not replacements for human judgment
Final thoughts
While no software solution is perfect on Day 1, AI writing assistants have evolved into helpful tools that can improve your writing. The key is finding the right tool that fits your workflow and using it consistently.
Whether you’re a professional writer, business communicator, or someone who wants to improve their writing, AI writing assistants have become valuable tools worth considering. Remember to treat these tools as assistants rather than replacements for your judgment. They’re there to enhance your writing, not to write for you.
