Uber driver: No reason to hide the facts

Uber is a taxi-type service in cities across the globe – including the United States – that allows you to summon a ride with your smartphone.

It’s great. Very useful, most drivers are nice and arrive quickly. Many times rides arrive in minutes – usually under 5. Once, I barely made it out of an airport terminal to catch my arriving Uber with an arriving time of one minute.

All transactions are handled through the app. Since I hardly ever carry cash, this is great! One downside is that it can be hard to know how much a ride will cost exactly.

As great as it is, there are things to know about. There are different services offered:

Black car

I had no idea what the difference was so I asked my Black car driver.

He explained the difference quickly and openly:

UberX is typically non-professional drivers (without chauffeurs license) who drive on the side. This service is the cheapest. Rides are as low as $4.

Black car is often limo services or other professional drivers. The black car service line is twice as expensive as UberX, he explained.

SUV is the most expensive of the three.

Now, wouldn’t it hurt the black car line that I now know the difference?

In theory, yes. Now I know and I can just get the cheapest option. But UberX isn’t always available or close by. And the Black cars are nice and offer a comfortable ride.

Plus, had he not told me, I could have just googled for the answer later on.

Ultimately, I appreciated the openness and willingness to answer questions and provide information.

That’s authentic storytelling and content marketing at its best: Provide valuable information in an open and useful way and to help customers make the best decisions for them.

Sure, we hope that includes our services, but it’s most meaningful and longterm when it’s actually beneficial, build on trust and an educated choice.

By the way, I’m still using the Black car service since knowing the difference – in part because I know the difference.
